Alley Loop Wax Recommendation, World Cup Presentation Thursday

BNS is offering race service for $39 at the Crested Butte Alley Loop.  We will be testing wax Friday AM and will update this wax recommendation with our test results.  For details and our current recommendation, see inside.

Don't forget our Thursday Night Wax Clinic Presentation 1/31 from 6-8PM.  Nathan Schultz and Matt Muir will talk about their experiences working at the World Cup in Canmore last week.

For race service, please drop off your skis by 8PM Thursday at the store in Boulder, or Friday in Crested Butte by 7PM.  Call 303.818.2365 to arrange drop off in Crested Butte.  All skis will be brought to the start of the race and be available from 8:30-9:10AM.

Snow, snow and more snow is the story for this race.  Crested Butte has received an awful lot of the stuff lately and more is forecast for Thursday and Friday with a 40% chance of snow during the race.  Pick soft skis and put large baskets on your poles, as the track will be soft.

For grind, fine is the choice.  ZR1 will be best, with ZR1XL as another option.

From reports out on the course, right now fluoros are not running well, but this is from a very unscientific test and the forecast predicts warmer temps.  The final result will probably be a very hard wax, the question to be answered is how much fluor to use.  Some of the newer HF waxes are very hard and could be great in the fresh snow.

Our call right now:

Start HF80 green or Start HG8 Green.
Swix LF4/CH4.  HFBD4 may be excellent in these conditions.
Toko HF Blue over an undercoat of LF moly

We will test Friday morning and post an update to this site.
