We had worked with one-off custom versions of the "clap-skate" concept in the mid-2000's, with custom-made boot and binding systems that allowed for connection to the ski at the ball of the foot. While the concept of pushing off underneath the ball of the foot felt right, the bindings and boots were not easy to work with and these all faded away. The new Skate X binding system from Rottefella finally brings a viable option to the masses and Madshus has done a fantastic job with the Redline Skate X boot.

 Ridiculously secure and comfortable fit, amazing control and a radical skating concept all packaged up in a wildly flamboyant package. The lower/wider RED Carbon Chassis gives the Skate X BOA® real edge authority and stability on difficult track surfaces, while the dual BOA® dials evenly distribute pressure and let you micro-adjust on the trail. It’s a confident, all-conditions race skate boot that still feels great on long days.

New for 2025-2026, Rottefella has a Skate X binding that works with IFP plates and also a Skate X rollerski binding, opening up this system for use on all brands of skis and rollerskis.
