Update on Ski Tariffs and What It Means for You
We want to be transparent about current tariffs affecting ski gear and how they may impact pricing. If you have questions, please reach out to one of our shops—we’re happy to share what we know. We’re not tariff experts, but we aim to provide clear info to help with your winter planning.
Key Points:
-
EU → USA Tariffs: Most ski hard goods, wax, and tools face a 15% tariff.
-
High-End Skis & Boots: Prices for top-level skis and boots have increased $40–$100 compared to our early-year quotes.
-
General Gear: Many products are seeing 4–10% price adjustments above what we originally planned.
-
Boots: Prices may fluctuate further this fall. Lower- to mid-level boots from certain Far East countries face 19–20% tariffs.
-
Poles & Pole Parts: Most are made in China. Prices may rise in the near future due to a current 90-day pause/truce; the tariff rate is 30% and could change.
-
Wax & Tools: Mostly European, subject to 15% tariffs. BNS plans to absorb most of these costs for in-house waxes, Rode, Holmenkol, and Guru. Other brands may adjust 5–15% depending on arrival dates and their absorption.
-
AirTrim Masks: Expect a small increase, ~10%.
-
Clothing & Gloves: Tariffs are 15–19%; likely a ~10% consumer price increase by the end of September.
Our Approach:
While uncertainty isn’t ideal, tariffs are more defined than earlier this summer. We feel confident that most gear will remain within 5–10% of last year’s prices. In many cases, BNS will absorb increases to keep gear affordable.
Bottom Line:
Right now, many items on our website are already significantly discounted compared to what prices are likely to be soon. Even if snow isn’t on your mind yet, now is a great time to save.
We’ll continue to keep you updated as things evolve. For help planning your winter gear, don’t hesitate to contact either of our stores—we’re here to help.
