Join us for a free Scott mountain bike demo Friday through Monday at Tin Shed Sports in Nederland! We have some of our favorite Scott bikes, the Genius and Spark, to demo this Memorial Day weekend. Bikes are first come, first served and are free to demo for 90 minutes or less. The Ned-area trails are in great shape, so come on up to Tin Shed this weekend and try out a Scott! We also have our regular fleet of MTB demos for rent.

Keeping your drive train clean after every ride is crucial and simple. It removes dirt and grime that can cause wear and tear on your bike's components and should take less than a minute to complete. A clean, lubricated chain improves pedaling efficiency, ensures smoother shifting, and extends the lifespan of your chain, cassette and chainrings. By making chain maintenance a routine, you'll enjoy a longer-lasting bike and a smoother ride every time.
Get a dedicated set of chain-care tools set up wherever you begin/end your ride. Minimally, you'll need a rag and chain lube, but there are a few small extras that make it easier:
Chain Lube - most of the time we recommend a dry lube
Rag
Dedicated pair of gloves to keep your hands clean
Chain/Cassette brush to clean cassette, derailleur pulleys and chainrings
Bike Stand
Start by shifting your bike into the big ring in front (if you have multiple chainrings) and the cog on your cassette that lines up best with your front chainring. Clean the cassette, derailleur pulleys and front chainrings with your rag and cassette brush. While pedaling backwards, apply the rag to the chain to remove dirt and old lube. It should only take 15-30 seconds to get a clean chain. Apply chain lube to chain while backpedaling. Let it soak in while pedaling for 15 seconds. Use a clean part of the rag to run the chain through one last time to remove excess lube. You'll want to sweep up the greasy dirt that comes from the cleaning, and you're good to go!
