Road Bike Tire OptionsSince we covered road bike pedals last week, we'll talk through some options for road tires this week! Plus our e-bike sale sticks around.
We're changing up our hours at both our North and South Boulder locations for the fall! Starting this week, both locations will be open 10 AM to 6 PM on weekdays, 10-5 Saturdays, 12-5 Sundays. Boulder Cycle Sport North will open at 8 AM every Wednesday for service drop-offs and hang out after the Wednesday Morning Velo Ride. Stop by or give us a call today!
Road Bike Tire Options
If you've been following our newsletter for a few weeks, you know that we've now covered both road and mountain bike pedal options, as well as MTB tire options. Now it's time for us to talk you through some of the available options for road bike tires.
The first thing you need to decide is whether or not you want tubeless tires for your road bike. We covered the advantages and disadvantages of road tires a few weeks ago, so we won't dive in too deep here. But, basically, tubeless tires allow you to run lower pressures, improving grip, and almost never get pinch flats. Tubeless tires and wheels for road bikes aren't quite as reliable or easy to set up as gravel and mountain bike options, but they still offer the same resistance to flats as other tubeless setups.
From there, the next consideration is tire width. In theory, a skinnier tire will roll faster but have slightly less grip in corners compared to a wider tire. On the other end of the spectrum, a wider tire will theoretically roll slower but perform much better in corners. Wide tires also absorb much more chatter from the road, smoothing out your ride. We recommend a 25c-32c tire for most road riders, but options are available on either side of that spectrum.
Next up, what kind of conditions will you be riding in? In the Front Range, we usually see dry weather, which means grippier, all-season tires aren't usually necessary. However, these can be a great option for riders looking to add a bit more grip. If that's what you're looking for, or you spend time riding in the wet, something like the Continental Grand Prix 4 Season is sure to give you the grip you need, even in extreme conditions. For those looking for a faster rolling, slightly less grippy tire for dry conditions, the Continental Grand Prix 5000 is the perfect choice! We have both of these tires, as well as many others, in stock at both our North and South Boulder locations. Stop in or give us a call if you have any more questions about your road tire setup!

Grips for MTB
If you're in the market for new MTB grips, it can seem like there are way too many options out there. We're here to help!
There are two main types of MTB grips. Slide-on grips, like these ESI Grips, are the lightest and usually cheapest option available. ESI grips are comfortable and light, but can be a challenge to install. Since these grips depend on a tight fit between the grip and the handlebars, they need to be installed using an air compressor, alcohol, or both.
Lock-on grips are the other main option for MTB grips. These grips are much easier to install as they mount via a clamp on one end of the grip. Both of these grip styles can be used on most commuter bikes as well!
We have lots of ESI grips and a few options for lock-on grips at both stores, so stop in or give us a call for more information!

If commuting is your jam, be sure to check out the Liv Rove 2 DD. As Giant's women's specific brand, this bike features a frame built specifically for women's bodies with components to match. That means a lower standover height and slightly shorter reach than unisex bikes in the same sizes. The Rove 2 DD features a modern 1x drivetrain, a suspension fork with 63mm of travel, and disc brakes. 1x drivetrains are much more reliable than 2x or 3x drivetrains. Take away the front derailleur and you have a lot less to break, right? The gravel tires and suspension fork help soften up your ride on rough pavement or gravel, keeping things comfortable on your commute. Finally, disc brakes unlock a whole lot of stopping power, plus more modulation compared to rim brakes.
This bike fits into the hybrid category, meaning it can be used for light trail riding in addition to simple commuting. We wouldn't recommend riding anything beyond a blue mountain bike trail on this bike, but it can handle lighter trail riding. So if you're looking for a commuter that you can also try mountain biking with, this could be a solid option! We have lots of sizes in stock at our South Boulder location, so stop by or give us a call to find out more!
