Fall Maintenance Checklist
For some riders, fall marks the beginning of the end of riding season. For others, it just means you put on a few more layers and keep on riding! Regardless of how you view the fall season, here are some maintenance tips that will keep your bike handling smoothly.
Usually fall is the time to make the switch from dry to wet lube. We haven't seen a lot of precipitation in the Front Range recently, but it's comin'! Being prepared with a good wet lube for when the roads or trails get a little moist is the simplest thing you can do to get your bike ready for fall and winter riding. Plenty of companies, including Rock N Roll and Muc-Off, make lubes that work great in all conditions. Rock N Roll Extreme is one of our favorites at the shop for its versatility and reliability.
As the roads and trails get wetter and muddier, cleaning your bike becomes more important than ever. Along with lubing your chain, cleaning your bike is one of the easiest things you can do to make sure your riding experience is hassle-free. At the very least, spraying your bike down with a hose is a good starting point. We also carry a variety of products that will deep clean everything from your fork to your brakes to your drivetrain.
Your bike isn't the only thing that needs a good clean! Make sure you hose off dirty outerwear including jackets, shoes, pads, and anything else that's been exposed to mud or dirt. The sooner you do this, the easier it will be to clean these items later.
If you are coming to the end of your riding season, think about getting your bike in for a check-up. Making sure everything is running smoothly at the end of the season will make the transition into spring that much easier. Even if things seem to be running well, the fall is a great time to bring your bike in for a tune-up to make sure the wear and tear of summer riding hasn't taken too much of a toll on your equipment.
